Pawel Information
Pawel (Paul) was born in Warsaw, Poland. Pawel came to America with his family in search of a better life. Upon arrival here in America, his father did not work & as a result is "out of the picture."
(Shanen's personal note: That's okay Pawel. The same thing happened with my Dad).
He was born on September 29, 1977. He has an older brother named Adam (who is 25) He was raised by his mother in a low-income Brooklyn neighborhood.
He is now better off and attends NYU (New York University) and majors in Photography. He is very compassionate about life & is a storyteller through his words & pictures.
For three semesters, Pawel has been accepted to Semester-at-Sea, but each times lack of finances has kept him from sailing.
Pawel says that the casting process had caused him to open up much more about his family history & issues relating with the absence of his father. (It was the first time he had actually talked about it with other people).
The biggest event in his life was moving from Poland to the U.S.A. The language barrier made things really hard for him.
Pawel usually tries to photograph things he likes & dislikes so that either way, he makes the best of both. He enjoys differences but hates self centered, ignorant people.
He fears settling on less, falling back on something. When he tells people that he majors in photography, they say "Don't you think you should major in business or something else just in case so you have something to fall back on?" He believes that people who have things to fall back on do just that, fall back.
