S&L's Interview With Pawel
Questions by Lisa
Yes, we've talked to Pawel before. These answers are 100% from Pawel himself. Pawel was nice enough to do an interview exclusively for our site!"
Please don't take this for your site. It's copyrighted 10-18-99/ S&L's Pawel Litwinski page!
Pawel: "wow, all i have to say is wow
I'm truly truly honored, I really don't know what else to say!!!
Thank you soooooo much."
S&L: "1.) Which Road Rules cast member did you feel closest to if any? Why or why not?"
Pawel: "absolutely, 100%, Shawn. He was a "real" friend. Whenever we had a day off in any
country, we would hang out. we had alot of adventures of our own."
S&L: "2.) What was your favorite part of Semester at Sea? The worst?"
Pawel: "favorite- the opportunities for photography, and meeting people with the
same love of traveling, adventure.
worst- I couldn't stand the drama, i ran from it, hello????? we're going
'round the world!!!
S&L: "3.) Which country was your favorite to take pictures in? Where else
would you like to travel to?"
Pawel: "Vietnam probably influenced me the most as a photographer, so there is no
contest. However, i really enjoyed our short stay in the maasai village in
Kenya, as well as our stay with the Dalit people in India."
S&L: "4.) How did you feel about being followed around with cameras? What kind
of things happened that we didn't see on the show (if you can tell us that)?"
Pawel: "I don't know if i can or can not, but, guess what, i don't care, so here
goes ;)
The production got fed up with me on some occasions because i would take
every opportunity that i had to sneak away. My photography is a very
personal as well as stealth-type of thing sometimes, I try not to alert
people to my presence. and it did not help to take full advantage of
shooting someone, w/o them knowing, while there was a camera guy, sound
guy, and a director surrounding you. I did feel bad sometimes because they
were just trying to do there jobs, and i gave them a hard time. But when
you have a priority, guess what,... nothing else matters.
S&L: "5.) When do you graduate from NYU? What are your plans for the future?"
Pawel: "the way that things are going now, i'll probably get an honorary degree
before anything else. I just don't have time to finish right now.
Photorelief.com has swallowed up all of my time. I only need one more year
to graduate, i want to finish and i know that i will,... eventually. for
now, I must prioritize, otherwise i will go crazy from overload."
S&L: "6.) What made you decide you wanted to get into photography?"
Pawel: "when I was a kid, about 8, my mother had a very fancy camera, or at least it
looked like it to me. in reality, it was actually pretty old and beat up.
It had all of these buttons and dials, i really wanted to get my hands on
it. Unfortunately, she didn't let me for fear that i might brake it. well,
a few years went by, and i finally got my own. that same old camera was
passed on to me. and the rest, well you know, history."
S&L: "7.) Do you have a girlfriend? ;-)"
Pawel: :(
(Shanen's Personal note: "WOHOO!!! My number is 574.......")
(Lisa's personal note: "Pawel, email me! :)")
S&L: "8.)What other hobbies do you enjoy?"
Pawel: "I love the ocean, even more than Pua ;)
I used to practice free-diving avidly. I lived in Florida for about 5 years.
During this time I fell in love with the under water realm. My favorite
thing to watch on TV is anything about water, oceans, ocean life, etc. when
i was a kid i found a baby shark in shallow water here in NY, (Long Island)
I played with it all day, never taking it out of the water of coarse.
anyway, i was like six years old, and soon crowds of people gathered. They
would question my mom..."what are you doing, thats dangerous!?!?!?" My mom
didn't care about them, she knew that I found a new friend. It was hard to
release it at the end of the day. I swam really far out with it. Further
then i had ever gone before. To a kid going past the breakers is like going
out to space. The shark swam along side of me, it was like a puppy!
Since then, especially while spear fishing, I've encountered alot of much
bigger sharks. They never bother me. Actually, I feel pretty safe around
them.
S&L "9.) What is your favorite band/musician? Fave TV show? photographer?"
Pawel: "I grew up listening to rock/metal. Now i've developed a tiny bit of rhythm.
i like to dance. so hip hop is the thing right now. But to tell the truth,
I really honestly like every single type of music. Latin, Rock, Reggae,
classical, even country! my favorite band...hmmmmm probably the chili
peppers."
S&L: "10.) Have you gotten any fan mail? How do you feel about us making this
site?
Pawel: "I've been getting the most amazing, inspirational letters as a result of
having set up my site. I am determined to read them all, and i do, every
last one. However, I don't have time to answer them all, and that kills me.
I really don't want to do batch mailings with the same cheezy response. If
people take the time to write to me, then I feel obliged to write back. And
I will, to every last one!
As far as you guys making this site, well, I am very happy. I am even more
interested to see it when its done. Thank You, thank you, thank you."
